1985

A Small Start with a Big Focus

Key Communications was originally formed in 1985 by Scott Stevens as a small telephone interconnect company, focused on selling, installing and servicing key telephone systems for small and mid-sized businesses in the Albany, NY area. Most of the new systems back then were TIE and ITT, but servicing AT&T Comkey, Merlin and Spirit, NEC, Tel Plus and Executone installations helped provide the necessary revenue for a small startup company.

1980s

Expanding into Network Wiring

As computer networks emerged, customers needed low-voltage wiring throughout their offices. Having wired office phones since 1980, Scott recognized that network wiring was a natural extension of the work. Key Communications began promoting this service as well, building new relationships and opportunities.

1987

Panasonic Enters the Market

In 1987, Panasonic made an appearance in the phone industry with a new hybrid key system. These systems offered capabilities that helped change the way businesses thought about their phone systems.

Today

Relationships Still Matter

Today, Key Communications combines decades of hands-on experience with cloud communications, structured wiring and trusted alliance partnerships to help businesses stay connected.
